It seems that you are either a summer person or not.
I love to swim, and I would give just about anything to live near the ocean, but I am positively NOT a summer person.
I sunburn even with protection. The heat gives me a migraine, and sweating is just plain GROSS. Plus it seems that summer is all about being out and about. Visiting with friends, family, traveling, and camp-outs.
I enjoy hanging with friends, camping in small doses, and traveling, but to be honest I am a total homebody. I think that’s why I love fall and winter so much. Hopefully this is going to be a RAINY fall and winter, perfect for hibernating.
Really, I’m not antisocial, well maybe a little.Β Β I just love being home with my kids, all cozy in jammies, watching movies or playing games.
Today, it’s 106 degrees, and while I may be hiding inside my air conditioned house, it’s not quite the same. I am SO ready for fall and all things apple and pumpkin.
This stovetop apple crisp is easy to throw together, makes your kitchen smell like fall, and in case it’s 106 where you live too, you don’t Β even have to turn the oven on.
Ingredients
- crisp topping -
- 1 1/2 Tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oats

I hate this heat!! I may want to live at the beach…but in normal temps. Love this crisp – it looks SO GOOD!
yes! the beach in chilly SF sounds perfect right now
Ha! I am SO much a summer person but I hear you with the hibernating with kids and jammies! This recipe is genius – no matter the temperature. Apple season just started in NC so this might be one of our first creations.
I wish I enjoyed summer more – I love having the break from school, but the heat is not my thing
I’ve made stovetop granola but hadn’t tried crisp yet – it looks so amazing and fresh!
thanks Alisa – now I need to try granola on the stovetop
I adore apple crisps–and I love them for breakfast too. Something about doing it on the stovetop makes me think this would be a great addition to Sunday brunch! Great job! P.S. Fall is hands down the best season EVER!
yes, yes it is! and it would be perfect for brunch
I love apple crisp but have never made a stove top variety. Looks delicious!
thanks Melissa – this was my first on the stove-top, and I don’t think I’ll go back – it is so much faster
Your apple crisp looks wonderful. I think my boys would enjoy helping make this. Actually, I think they could do it on their own. I love summer but 106. Even the ac would have trouble keeping up. Bet you are looking forward to fall.
our Ac has been running non-stop and it still is not cool enough – fall better get here soon π thanks Ali
I feel the same way. I love camping and swimming and some other summertime activities, in small doses. But curling up next to the fire with a good book holds so much more appeal to me. I am definitely looking forward to fall!
YES!! a fire and a book and of course some snacks is my idea of the perfect day
I’m sooo excited for fall and recipes like this make me even more excited! This stovetop crisp sounds to die for π
thanks Medha, I am too π
I used to hate summer back when I lived in Arizona, but now that I’m in Colorado it’s my favorite time of year! I do however miss delicious fall desserts like apple crisp! Yours looks so good and I love that it’s made on the stove!
if summer wasn’t hot I’d probably love it π
Ooh, it’s so nice that you can make this on the stove top and don’t have to bake it! That makes it a bit quicker and definitely easier. Also, I am definitely a summer person. The hotter the better! Okay, not really because we went to Dubai and it was easily 120 degrees there and it was too hot.. I am excited for fall though, I’ll be honest =) http://www.ourfoodieappetite.com/belmont-house-of-smoke-norfolk-va-review/
my husband like it hot too π but I’m sure 120 would even be too much for him – thanks Kati
I am so ready for Fall weather too. Bring on the apples! I love that you made this crisp on the stovetop. It makes it so much easier.
thanks Christie – this heat STINKS!! I am SO looking forward to rain and cool temps
I’m with you–I love the sunshine of summer, but I wilt in the heat. 106 sounds unbearable! I’d happily hide in the air conditioned house binging on Netflix with a bowl of this apple crisp.
what would we do without Netflix? π thanks Kirsten
Dear Heather, I love this light and healthy crisp. I am in complete agreement with you. I am looking forward to fall this year…granted the temps here in NY are not has high where you are, but 90 is enough for me! Stay cool and safe in that heat. xo, Catherine
I SO miss NY – but even 90 is more than I care for – sunny and 75 would be perfect! Thanks Catherine
This looks delightful! And seems so much easier than baking it!
thanks so much Cynthia – and yes SO easy
This makes me so excited for fall! I love the idea of making is on the stovetop. Beautiful photos by the way!
