 homemade applesauce is even easier when done in the slow cooker

There are two things I’m obsessing over lately {how Andy Cohen of me}

apples and my slow cooker

We go through dozens of apples, yes DOZENS, in a week. Stella easily eats two a day, every day; same with Charlie. Ian  and I are good for at least one, and then of course I LOVE cooking and baking with them.

and applesauce, my kids LOVE applesauce, as in would eat it for every meal every day no questions asked

I should make applesauce more often; not only is homemade applesauce easy to do, but it makes your house smells amazing. The hardest part is peeling all those apples.

The other day I found myself with a few too many,  like 5 pounds too many, so I decided it would be applesauce making day. Trouble is, it was a pretty busy day for me, and standing over the stove was not going to be an option.

Slow Cooker applesauce, why have I not done this sooner.

I peeled  and sliced my 5 pounds of apples, added a few cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, star anise, and even a few orange slices {pretty much my standard mulling spice ensemble} 5 hours later it was the most delicious homemade applesauce ever to come out of my kitchen. I didn’t even need to add sugar, the apples were perfectly sweet on their own, but a little brown sugar would be perfect if you prefer it sweeter.

We like our applesauce chunky, so a quick stir was all I did, but if you prefer a smoother texture, use an immersion blender.

Nothing says fall quite like homemade applesauce; I only hope ours lasts more than a day or two because peeling 5 pounds of apples tends to cramp a gals hand.
