Summer is almost here.

That means dinner outdoors

late night fires

s’mores {or s’more pie perhaps}

drinks on the deck,

and of course plenty of grilling.

KC Masterpiece

KC Masterpiece® is celebrating the brands 35th anniversary with the release of its limited-edition blend, KC Masterpiece® Kansas City Classic barbecue sauce. This sauce pays tribute to the original “Blue Ribbon” blend, and while it is AMAZING on anything, ribs seemed to be the only way to do it justice.

And not just any ribs, but true KC style low and slow ribs.

We started with 2 racks of pork ribs – each 2 1/4 pounds, our favorite BBQ rub recipe

after rubbing the ribs thoroughly on both sides (using about 1/2 cup of rub) , chill for at least two hours

The ribs are best made in a smoker { kept at 225 degrees} but can be done on a grill over indirect heat {you will want to add wood chips to a smoker box if grilling}

Using a smoker expect the ribs to take 4 – 5 hours, 2 – 3 for a grill – make sure not to overcook, as there should still be plenty of meat on the bone. If they begin to dry out, wrap them in foil to complete cooking.

About 20 minutes before the ribs finish cooking, brush them with 1 cup of KC Masterpiece® Kansas City Classic barbecue sauce. Of course you will want to serve plenty of extra sauce on the table, along with your favorite BBQ fixings.

This was a first attempt at ribs for us, but it won’t be the last that’s for sure. The kids could not get enough, and it was a wonderful way to spend   a summery Sunday evening.
