Homemade {hot-chocolate} Three Musketeer Bars

Today my son turns 13.

I am in shock.
I remember the day he was born like it was yesterday.
How could 13 years have gone by already?

I know that everyone is sweeted out,
I am too,

it isn’t everyday that your oldest becomes a teenager.

We’re celebrating with homemade candy.
Three Musketeer bars
of the hot chocolate variety
{so much better than the original if you ask me}
to be exact.

I’ll worry about my healthy new year plans tomorrow:)

Hot Chocolate Three Musketeer Bars

Step 1 – the fluff
2 egg whites {room temperature}
3/4 cup of light corn syrup
1/2 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of water

combine the corn syrup, the sugar, and the water in a small saucepan
bring to a boil and cook until 240 degrees {about 5 minutes}

begin to whisk the egg whites, slowly adding the sugar syrup
whisk until you have the somewhat stiff consistency of marshmallow fluff

Step 2 – nougat

bring 1 cup of corn syrup
2 cups of sugar
and 1/4 cup of water to a boil
this time you will boil a bit longer until it registers 285 on a candy thermometer
{this will provide the body to the nougat}

whisk this syrup into the fluff
adding 1/2 – 3/4 cup of hot chocolate mix

gently pour into a well greased 13 x 9 inch pan
and allow to set up {I kept mine in the fridge}

after set – cut into pieces and dip into melted chocolate
{I simply used a bag of chocolate chips}

We have had SO much fun making candy;
certainly easier to buy a bag,
but not nearly as much fun.
