I’ve already shared with you one of my dirty little secrets
{I love doritos}
To satisfy my love for this delicious spicy, cheesy snack, I made my own
and they were good.
Today I am sharing another dirty little secret with you.
My son LOVES taco bell.
He and his friends go EVERY Friday after school.
I love his growing independence, but his choice in food scares me just a bit.
His favorite on these Friday afternoon outings, the doritos locos taco.
Oh, doritos
I knew what I had to do…
I made my own
They may not keep Charlie from his taco bell outings once school starts in the fall, but at least for now, he’s pretty happy eating them at home.
Because my kids prefer flour over corn tortillas, I made homemade tortillas but you can certainly make the taco shells with store bought corn tortillas, just make sure to warm them for a few seconds in the microwave before baking to make them more flexible.
Ingredients
- Tortillas {I made my own}
- Spice mix -
- 2 tbsp taco seasoning combined with 1 Tbsp dry cheese {from a box of mac and cheese}
- olive oil
Instructions
- brush both sides of each tortillas with olive oil
- rub one side of the tortilla with the spice mix
- drape {spice mix side up} over 2 rungs on an oven rack
- bake at 375 degrees for 7 minutes
- to keep their shape I placed them inside of one another while cooling
- fill with you favorite taco items
- best eaten the day they are made
*You can make the tortillas ahead of time {if using homemade} and keep them in an airtight container, and then just brush and bake when you need them.
Enjoy!

I never would have to thought to repurpose the mac and cheese, cheese! I could get used to these! Holy cow!
we always have extra packets floating around for some reason, now I put them to good use – they really make tasty chips/shells

I lived on Doritos and orange soda in high school- oh my can’t imagine that now. But I can definitely get behind a homemade Doritos flavored shell. Such a cool use of the cheese packet. Great idea!
