things haven’t changed much since i first published these homemade cheese crackers 7 years ago.

the kids are older. one technically isn’t even a kid anymore.  still not sure how that happened. they’re both taller than i am. we added a dog or two and some chickens. but stella is still a fussy eater. and both would rather snack throughout the day than eat regular meals.

they also both still love cheese-crackers.

compared to a lot of snack items, they’re pretty harmless.
but i have never really been a fan. i think it’s the color of store bought crackers.

i feel exactly the same about boxed mac and cheese, but kids love them both.

so i made homemade cheese crackers

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1/2 cup cream


  • preheat oven to 400°
  • line baking sheets with parchment paper
  • combine flour, cheese, butter, and seasoning in the bowl of a food processor
  • pulse until evenly combined
  • add cream and pulse until a dough forms
  • roll dough on a piece of parchment paper to about 1/8 inch
  • cut into squares (or shapes) prick with fork or wooden skewer
  • place on lined baking sheets
  • bake 8 minutes
  • cool completely before storing in an airtight container

cheese crackers are simple to make at home, without the funky color.
they taste great. and if the kids are going to snack, at least they snack on something good.

i think they’re even better than store bought.
