healthy apple carrot muffins (for your doggy)

healthy apple carrot muffins

we are a dog loving house. good thing because we have three of them. if it were up to me we’d probably have a few more than that, but ian has decided that three is plenty.

greta is our oldest; she’s an almost 12 year old weimaraner.  i could do without her barking at every stranger that approaches the house, but i could not imagine the house without her.

finn came next. he’s a 5 year old terrier mix . we had no intentions of adding a second dog, but stella volunteered at an animal rescue and fell in love at first sight.

beatrice is also 5 years old. and again, we had no intentions of adding a third dog. we’d only had finn for a few months, but fostering a litter of puppies comes with a high price. i could not part with her.

so, we have three dogs. it can get loud, and crazy, and there is hair where no dog hair should be, but i could not imagine it any other way.

finn has decided to become allergic to most store bought dog food. he’s always had skin issues, but lately they have gotten much worse. after talking to our vet it seemed the best thing to do was to make his dog food. nothing fancy, i usually include chicken or turkey, sometimes lamb, rice, and veggies…finn is a big asparagus lover.

but i figured if homemade food is going to be a daily activity, why not offer them some variety. i’m sure dogs get bored eating the same thing day after day.  today my gang got healthy apple carrot muffins for breakfast, along with some low fat cottage cheese.

greta couldn’t wait for them to cool and ate one right out of the pan. liner and all.
