Have you seen these beauties @ Sally’s Baking Addiction?

Just looking at her pictures, I could almost smell them.
{If you’ve ever been to Auntie Anne’s, you know the smell I am talking about}

It calls to you from across a busy mall.
You don’t even need to be hungry,
the smell is that good.

We LOVE soft pretzels, but Auntie Anne’s are our favorite.
I’ve made them in the past, but was always a bit disappointed with how they turned out.

Sally’s blog convinced me to give it another go.

I searched LOADS of recipes,
and ended up taking bits from some,
and then winging the rest.

They rose beautifully,
which is always a plus:)
{because  my kitchen is a bit cold – I had them rise in the oven with the light on}

and while they were baking, it smelled JUST like the mall!
I was SO excited.

Now, to be like Anne’s, you need to add the melted butter like Anne’s.

Oh My Goodness,
the  kids could not get enough.

For me, that says it all,
they are definitely my worst critics.

Copycat Auntie Anne’s Soft Baked Pretzels

2 tbsp of brown sugar
1 tsp salt
4 cups of AP flour

sprinkle the yeast over the water and let sit for a minute
stir in the sugar and let rest 5 minutes
add in the salt and the flour
knead well, cover and let rise for about an hour

while the dough is rising combine 2 cups of water with 2 tbsp of baking soda

divide your risen dough into 12 segments
roll into ropes
dip each rope into the baking soda water
and shape

place each pretzel on a buttered baking sheet
let rise again for about 30 minutes

brush the HOT pretzels with melted butter {about 3 – 4 tbsp}

I STRONGLY suggest NOT skipping that last step.
