did you know january is national soup month? i love soup for dinner. with a salad and a fresh baked loaf of bread, soup may be one of my favorite winter meals. the kids do not agree with me on this. but, add that soup to bread bowls and they are all in. it makes no sense. it is the same soup, the same bread, but when you put the soup in the bread they love it.
weeknights get busy. schedules change last minute, and no matter how well you plan, getting a good meal on the table for dinner is hard. a meal that the kids will actually eat is even harder. start with the 30 minute bread bowls – combine your ingredients, knead, divide and let rise 10 minutes
while your bread bowls rise, bring 4 cups of water to a boil and preheat the oven
after 10 minutes pop bread bowls into the oven
whisk soup packet into boiling water and simmer 5 minutes
remove soup from the heat, cover and let sit 5 minutes to thicken
take bread bowls from the oven, cut top, and fill with soup

- 3 cups flour
- 2 Tbsp Instant Yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 Tbsp butter, melted
- preheat the oven to 425°
- line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat Baking Mat
- combine flour, yeast, and salt, stir in the water, butter, and honey
- knead until you have a sooth ball (about 5 minutes)
- divide dough into 4 pieces, and form into a smooth balls
- place on baking sheet, cover loosely with a clean kitchen towel and let rise 10 minutes
- bake bread bowls 15 minutes
- remove tops, hollow out the bread and fill with soup
