Red Velvet Hot Cocoa

The internet is full of “healthy” or “skinny” recipes.
This year is about getting fit for so many. My health plans for the new year do not include “dieting”, but more of a healthy lifestyle change. More fruits and vegetables. Smarter grains, smaller portions, and less sugar.
Less sugar does NOT mean NO sugar.
Sometimes you just have got to have a sweet treat.
This single serving hot cocoa is quick, easy, and takes a BIG bite out of that sweet tooth.
{Plus you probably have everything you need already at home}
And it’s red, and I LOVE red.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of skim {or 1% milk}
- 1/2 cup of chopped bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate {chocolate chips work well}
- 1 - 1 1/2 tsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp vanilla
- for the whipped cream:
- 1/4 cup of heavy cream
- 1 Tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- heat the milk over medium
- whisk in the chocolate, and stir until melted
- stir in the food coloring and the vanilla
- whip the cream with the sugar and vanilla
- serve the hot chocolate topped with whip and chocolate shavings
enjoy!
This will help me keep warm here in the cold and freezing rain weather we have right now! Great recipe!
I know so many are snowed in, and I think I’m a bit jealous
i’ve always wanted to make this. looks yummy!
go for it – it is so easy and YUMMY
I totally agree. Dieting never lasts long-it’s about lifestyle changes, not xx amount of weeks where you never eat carbs, or eat like a caveman, or starve yourself;) Anyway, I love this…I plan on doing a Valentine’s advent calendar for my husband this year, since he doesn’t actually like the day itself…and I’m looking for little treats that will be easy to prepare…kinda like this! Cool beans!
I love that calendar idea- how fun!
I love red velvet anything! And I’m totally with you on the healthy lifestyle. I can do less sugar, but I couldn’t give it up! Thanks for sharing! It looks awesome! =)
same here Kate! thanks
