easy chocolate cherry soda cupcakes
you are only two ingredients away from these easy chocolate cherry soda cupcakes
summer vacation makes me feel like a kid again
popsicles and s’mores
days spent swimming or running through sprinklers
and all the cherries and watermelon you can eat
movies on the deck, staying up way too late
and maybe a few extra sweets or more than a few
these cherry chocolate soda cupcakes are perfect for late-night movie watching under the stars, and could not be any easier, making them a great kid-made treat, and I just love when my kids get excited to be in the kitchen with me
just two ingredients – chocolate cake mix and Dr Pepper Cherry® soda
I don’t drink or buy soda often, but in the summer we splurge a bit, and Dr Pepper® has always been a family favorite. This summer I bought both limited edition flavors Dr. Pepper Cherry® and Dr. Pepper Vanilla Float® (you can find them at Safeway and Albertsons stores)
chocolate and cherry are a delicious combination, and trust me kids have a blast making cake with soda, it really doesn’t get much more fun
the cupcakes are SO good on their own or with a dusting of powdered sugar, but we added chocolate frosting and cherries
pit spitting contest anyone?
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 12 ounces of Dr Pepper Cherry
- pre-heat the oven to 350 F.
- blend cake mix with the soda
- pour into cupcake liners, being careful not to over-fill (should be no more than 2/3 full)
- bake 14 - 18 minutes
- allow to cool completely before frosting
summer is about having fun and spending more time with my family and friends, so I used canned frosting, but feel free to make your own (this is the buttercream frosting I use)
